Key Highlights of Dr. Soryan’s Address

Dr. Soryan emphasized, sustainability was no longer an option but a necessity. She guided the audience on the transition from policy to practice, illustrating how education served as a powerful tool in building a sustainable world. Using a simple analogy, she explained that if one consumed an entire bar of chocolate today, nothing would remain for tomorrow. However, if shared and saved, it could benefit more people. This analogy effectively conveyed the significance of resource conservation for future generations.

She presented several international case studies, highlighting sustainability integration in the education systems of Finland, Canada, and Germany.

  • Finlandencouraged hands-on sustainability projects, including recycling, energy conservation, and urban gardening.
  • Canada incorporated climate education into disciplines such as science, geography, and
  • Germany provided students with practical exposure through visits to renewable energy plants and organic farms.

Dr. Soryan acknowledged India’s progressive approach through the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which promoted hands-on sustainability projects in schools. She discussed initiatives such as rainwater harvesting, organic farming and waste management, enabling students to apply sustainability concepts in real life.

She also referenced the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, which underscored the importance of quality education integrated with sustainability. She shared an inspiring example from rural Africa, where schools had adopted solar energy, reducing reliance on traditional fuels and fostering environmental conservation.

A particularly compelling case study presented by Dr. Soryan was Bhutan’s Gross National Happiness model, which prioritized sustainable living and well-being over material success. Bhutanese schools incorporated mindfulness, environmental awareness and self-well-being into their curricula, encouraging practices such as meditation, nature walks and eco-friendly habits.

In her concluding remarks, she reinforced the urgency of integrating sustainability into education and daily life, urging attendees to take small yet impactful steps such as planting trees and adopting eco-friendly habits, to contribute to a sustainable future.

The seminar successfully fostered thought-provoking discussions and innovative ideas, leaving a lasting impact on all participants. The event concluded with a commitment to drive green renewable electronics forward in pursuit of a sustainable and environmentally responsible future.
