STC on "Repair and Maintenance of Buildings", NITTTR, Chandigarh

A Short Term Course on "Repair and Maintenance of Buildings" was organized by NITTTR Chandigarh from 22nd - 26th August 2016. Twenty four students from Civil Engineering Department, Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida attended the course at NITTTR Chandigarh.
The objective of the course was to make students understand the latest technologies that are used in repair and maintenance of buildings.
DAY - 1
During the inaugural session Mr. SANJAY KUMAR SHARMA, Professor, Civil Engineering Deptt, NITTTR & Coordinator of the program, discussed importance of the training. E-learning Module on Design of Buildings, Practical demonstration of Module & Economic aspects of Maintenance was discussed by the experts in the session.
DAY - 2
Col. Harry Sidhu, Retd. Chief Engineer, MES, Chandigarh, delivered a lecture on "General Building Defects and Causes" and "design considerations for maintenance & repair" on the second day. Col. Sidhu gave an idea on concrete of the building defects, their causes and various methods for maintenance and their repair. The day ended with the lecture on "Investigations by NDT" and some case studies.
DAY - 3
Col. Sidhu started the third day with the discussion on "Repair materials" and "Dampness in Walls & Toilet Water Proofing". The students acquired to know about the various advanced repairing materials and the concept of dampness and water proofing. The day ended with the panel discussion on the above mentioned topics.
DAY - 4
In this session case studies of various sites, projects, residential building constructions were discussed on the basis of their defects and maintenance.
DAY - 5
In the last day Dr. Varinder S. Kanwarm Prof & Head,Civil Engg. Deptt discussed the structural health monitoring & how the common persons and engineers monitor & control the structural health.
In the next session Col. Sidhu delivered a lecture on Maintenance of roofs. Various techniques and methods of repair of roof were discussed in the session.
In the valedictory session Dr. Sanjay Kumar Sharma took the feedback from the participants and distributed the certificates of participation to the participants.
