A one day Workshop on The Role of NPTEL Local Chapters in the Development of Online Courseswas organizedby Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpuron 31st January 2017 at IPEC, Ghaziabad. Prof T. BothichandarfromDronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noidaattended the workshop.
The objective of the workshop was to discuss how courses like NPTEL would eventually benefit the students, who can be exposed to lectures and courses being delivered by IIT faculty and also to create awareness about this mission of MHRD, Govt. of India, among the faculty members and students.
Dr. P.S. Sharma, Director - IPEC, welcomed the dignitaries and appreciated the effort being made by participating colleges towards use of online education system.
Prof.(Dr) Kushal Sen, Department of Textile Technology - IIT Delhi, focused on challenges and urgencies of improvement. He advised expansion and value addition in technical education particularly in view of geometrical expansion in terms of quantity and quality. He gave a brief presentation on :

Dr. Sen also gave an overview of SWAYAM, an online learning portal, the engineering courses on which are produced and delivered by faculties from NPTEL. Dr. Sen said that SWAYAM is a programme initiated by Government of India and designed to achieve the three cardinal principles of Education Policy viz., access, equity and quality. He said that the objective of this effort is to take the best teaching learning resources to all, including the most disadvantaged. SWAYAM, he stated, seeks to bridge the digital divide for students who have hitherto remained untouched by the digital revolution and have not been able to join the mainstream of the knowledge economy.
Prof. (Dr.) Lalty Dutta, Sr. Project Associate (NPTEL) IIT Kanpur, spoke about MOOCs (Massive Open Online Course) and explained its effectiveness.
Dr.(Mrs.).Angana Sen Gupta, NPTEL Coordinator, IIT Kanpur, said that the new generation of India is way ahead in Information & Communication Technology (ICT). She presented an elaborate picture of how Internationally ICT is playing an increasing role in the field of education.
The workshop helped participants gain information about NPTEL courses and tangible outcomes of the certification courses. It ended with the distribution of Certificates by Dr. P.S. Sharma (Director-IPEC) and Prof.(Dr) Kushal Sen, IIT Delhi.
