IITB: AICTE Approved FDP on

Pedagogy for Online and Blended Teaching-Learning Process (FDP201X) Face to Face Interaction

7th & 8th October, 2017

The Face to Face interaction of IITB: AICTE Approved FDP on Pedagogy for Online and Blended Teaching-Learning Process (FDP201X) organized under Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya National Mission for Teachers and Teaching (PMMMNMTT), MHRD was held at Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida (RC 1316) on 7th & 8th October, 2017. 16 participants who successfully completed FDP101x were declared eligible for FDP201x.

Day - 1-7 October, 2017:

The first day of Face to Face interaction started at 9:30 AM with a discussion on Open educational resources (OER) Mr. Jayakrishnan M, IDP in ET, IIT Bombay.  Mr. Jayakrishnan focused on the definition of OER and conveyed all RCs to be specific while creating OER. He interacted with some of the remote centres who had queries regarding OER creations.

Prof. Kannan Moudgalya, IITB, conducted a session on Scilab and gave brief of the Scilab Awareness Session scheduled for 12/10/2017.

During post lunch session Mr. Jayakrishnan discussed the importance of ‘Wiki’ as MOOCs. He described the features of ‘Wiki’ with examples and its usage.  He also discussed how ‘Wiki’ helps to manage large scale group projects.  Mr. Jayakrishnan took queries from RCC’s on ‘How to use MOOCs in teaching-learning process’. A number of innovative processes were suggested by some of the remote centers which are:

  1. Use of Procter Exam through MOOCs
  2. Use of Online Courses for Revision before Semester Examination

Some of the elective courses may be replaced by MOOC courses and graded accordingly in the curriculum etc. Mr. Jayakrishnan appreciated the suggestions and took responses (through chat) from rest of the remote centers on how much they are likely to use these techniques.

Mr. Jayakrishnan ended the session with the hope that all the communities developed during the FDP should collaborate among themselves for the accomplishment of its goal.

Day 2-8 October, 2017

The second day started with a discussion on Building and Sustaining Collaborative Community by Prof. Sridhar Iyer in which he focused on some specific aspects such as : What we want to do after FDP?, What is it required to do this?, How to do this after FDP? and what to do if one wants to go even further?

Prof. Iyer explained each question with specific answer to build and sustain collaborative community. He suggested to take supports from Cohorts and RCs for discussion, to use Web Pages, Padlets  etc that they have developed for sharing their views, to involve in research for further enhancement of teaching-learning paradigm. Prof. Sridhar encouraged the participants to explore diversified field for research.

Prof. Sahana Murthy conducted the session on Peer Assessment and Active Learning in which she first took poll from the remote centers on the serious concerns regarding Peer Assessment in this FDP. She then discussed about various aspects of Good Peer Assessments such as its Reliability, Clarity, Explanation of detail criteria, Feedback etc. The session ended with interaction with remote centers.

The post lunch session was  on collaboration among RCs by Prof. Sahana Murthy  in which she instructed  the RC coordinators to share one take away message from the FDP i.e. what they will do in their next week class, based on the FDP.

The last session was on group activity on OER creation in which Mr. Jayakrishnan suggested guidelines to prepare OER by the team and the grading process for the OER.

The two-day Face to Face interaction on FDP201x was very effective and useful for the participants.
