Spoken Tutorial Awareness Session

An awareness session on Spoken Tutorial was organized by Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noidain collaboration with IIT Bombayon 17th February 2017. The objective of the session was to spread awareness about spoken tutorial activities and to train students as well as faculty members. Fourteen Faculties from various colleges and 134 students of First Year from Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noidaattended the session.
The workshop was conducted by Ms. Varsha Dand, Training Coordinator, Spoken Tutorial, IIT Bombay.
The program started with lighting of lamp and floral welcome of the guest by Prof. (Dr.) S. K. Bagga, Director DGI, Greater Noida.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Varsha Dand said that the Spoken Tutorial project is the initiative of the National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (ICT), launched by the Ministry of Human Resources and Development, Government of India. The Spoken Tutorial project is being developed by IIT Bombay. She stressed thatlearning is more effective when animation and narration are presented simultaneously. Audio - video demonstrations can illustrate features with maximum clarity. The session was conducted to pass on the knowledge of technology and free open source software (FOSS)to the students and faculty members who lack opportunities or access to learn any software.
Ms. Varsha Dand said that about 4 lakh participants have been trained through Spoken Tutorial and over 220 colleges have been registered. She stated that Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DEITY, GoI) had said that, Government shall endeavor to adopt Open Source Software in all e-Governance systems implemented by various Government organizations, as a preferred option in comparison to Closed Source Software.
During the lab session students and faculty were given hands on practice on software like Linux, Scilab, LaTeX, PHP & MySQL, Java, C/C++, LibreOffice. The participants got themselves registered on Spoken Tutorial website. Ms. Varsha Dand explains the procedure to fill the registration form. She explained them about filling of Tracking and Monitoring Sheet. Participants got first-hand information about applications of the software in real life. Hands - on - training instilled confidence in them about of Spoken Tutorial.
The program came to an end with vote of thanks by Ms. Sheetal Saigal, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, DGI Greater Noida. Shethanked all the participants from different colleges, faculty coordinators and management for making event successful.
