QEEE Session on
Natural Convection, Boiling & Condensation
13th, 14th and 15th February, 2017
QEEE Session on “Natural Convection, Boiling & Condensation- Convection Heat Transfer” was organized through ICT under D2S by IIT Madras at Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida during 13th - 15th February 2017. The session was conducted by Prof. S. R. Kale, IIT Delhi. Students from Mechanical Engineering VI semester participated in the session along with the Local Faculty Coordinator Mr. Harshit Kumar.
Day 1: 13th February 2017
Prof. Kale started the first session with an explanation of the significance of natural convection with practical examples.Prof. Kale explained the free convection which is special case of natural convection. He gave detailed description of Natural Convection. He later discussed thermal and hydrodynamic boundary layers and gave good understanding of boundary layers.
Day 2: 14th February 2017
Prof. Kale started the session with the concept of Boiling. He described natural convection pool boiling with practical examples like cooking and in case of forced convection boiling like BWR (boiling water reactor). He explained internal forced convection boiling citing examples of evaporator of refrigerator, chip cooling etc. He also discussed Jet Impingement Boiling.
Day 3: 15th February 2017
Prof. S. R. Kale started the last day’s session with concept of condensation i.e. natural and forced convection boiling. He gave detailed description about the type of condensation like homogeneous, direct contact condensation. He ended the session with explanation of Drop-wise condensation on a flat plate and also described the modeling, correlations.
Each session was very interactive. Within the limited time he had provided a very impressive introduction and comprehensive outlook about Natural Convection, Boiling & Condensation. On behalf of DGI students Mr. Durgesh Kumar, Mr. Rajesh, Mr. Aditya and Mr. Praveen forward their quarries about convection, boiling and condensation during Q & A Session.
The entire three day session with Prof. S. R. Kale was very knowledgeable and informative which indeed helped students as well as faculty to broaden their horizon about Convection Heat Transfer. It was a complete package of comprehensive study materials which Included of Video Lectures, PowerPoint Slides and PDF documents. It also included quiz, proctored quiz and assignment for grading of students.
