Celebration of International Girl Child Day

NSS Unit and Women Development Cell of Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida celebrated “International Girl Child Day” on 11th October, 2023. The day was celebrated with the theme of “Empower Girls for a Brighter Tomorrow”. 85 girl students and 25 female faculty members participated in the celebration activities.
The day was celebrated to spread awareness about the inequalities faced by girls in Indian society, and also to promote awareness about the rights of the girl child and the importance of female education, health, and nutrition. The day is in line with various campaigns and programs of the Indian government including Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and Save the Girl Child.
Dr. Mamta Bhardwaj (NSS PO, DGI) coordinated the celebration activities. The celebration started with the motivating speech by Dr. Ritu Soryan (Dean, Student Welfare and Member, WDC, DGI). The speech highlighted certain issues related to the female gender like access to education, gender inequality, violence, etc. Some Students also shared their viewpoints on the stated topics.
Later, some of the NSS volunteers along with NSS PO, DGI went to the nearby adopted village Tilwara to spread the knowledge about importance of educating girls, their health and good nutrition. There, they had mass communication and also had one-to-one discussion with some of them.
The celebration was not just a one –day affair, but proved to be a promising stone towards promoting female voice. The event also helped in the creation of supportive environment for their growth and success.
