Workshop "E-Myths"
21st August 2015
A one day Workshop on "E-Myths" was organized by "Footsteps" for 1st Year students of Computer Science & Engineering branch on 21st August 2015 at Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida. Following were the committee members:
1. Prof. TPN Singh, Advisor (R&D) - Convener
2. Dr. Abhishek Swami, HOD (APS) - Coordinator
3. Dr. Neeraj Bala, Asst. Prof. (APS) - Coordinator
4. Ms. Priyanka Upadhyay, Asst. Prof. (APS) - Program Committee
5. Ms. Attadeepa Maurya, Asst. Prof. (APS) - Program Committee
Mr. Rohit Kandakatla, President "SPEED" and Founder "Footsteps" was the resource person. Fifty four students of 1st Year CSE branch participated in the workshop. Ms. Priyanka Upadhyay welcomed the resource person and participants. Dr. S. K. Bagga, Director, DGI, Gr. Noida gave the welcome address and introduced Mr. Rohit Kandakatla to the participants. Prof. T.P.N Singh rendered the introductory address and apprised the students of the importance of creativity and innovation. He stressed the need of Entrepreneurship Eco-system and appreciated the efforts put in by Mr. Rohit Kandakatla in this direction.
Mr. Rohit Kandakatla stated that 82% of Engineering Students complete the course to find that they actually lack the necessary employability skills. His workshop is designed to bridge the gap between myth and reality. He assured the students that at the end of the program they will be able to :
1. Look at engineering with interest and passion.
2. Have increased confidence in seeing themselves through the career they have Chosen.
3. Achieve increased creativity and collaborative outcomes.
4. Develop leadership skills.
5. See an improvement in teamwork, creativity and communication skills.
Mr. Rohit conducted various activities which involved all the students. Initially he made an attempt to introduce the students to each other. Further he divided them into teams and projected a video clip to assess the basic knowledge of the students. The students were asked to trace the elements of physics used in those clips. Through an activity of cartoon drawings he made them play a game of improving communications, staying focused, making use of eye contact and achieving the desired objectives.
The students interacted and responded with great enthusiasm in all activities. In the second session the students were provided material to make a creative model for balancing weight. He discussed various tenets like Archimedes principle, Pascal's theory and Newton's law etc. His activities were based on the concepts which were propounded by these theorists. Lastly, the students were made to realize the challenges and hardships one will encounter in achieving a major goal of life like completing the four year engineering course. The activity consisted of rolling a marble through a set of semi-circular pipe sections from one end to the other. Dropping the marble entailed the student to start the exercise from the beginning. The activities were of meaningful value and the students learned a lot. The workshop came to an end at 03:00 pm. Prof. TPN Singh gave the vote of thanks.
Feedback on the workshop was taken by the Program Coordinator at the end of the program. The students rated the workshop as excellent and spoke very high of the event.
