WORKSHOP ON VIRTUAL LAB

Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida in association with, IIT Delhi organized a workshop on, "Virtual Labs" on, 24th Aug 2015. The objective of the workshop was to create awareness of Virtual Labs among students and faculty members. Virtual Labs is a project initiated by the, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, under the National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology. The project aims to provide remote - access to Laboratories in various disciplines of science and engineering for students at all levels from under-graduate to research.
Eight faculty members along with 130 students of first year attended the workshop. The resource person of the workshop were:
1. Mr. Tanmay Tarun Das, Outreach - In - Charge, IIT - Delhi
2. Mr. Bhairab Patra, CSE / IT V-Lab Mentor, IIT-Delhi
3. Mr. Nitin Agarwal, ECE / EEE V - Lab Mentor, IIT - Delhi
4. Mr. Guru Dutt Sharma, Physical Sciences Lab Mentor, Bharti Telecom Center, IIT - Delhi
Prof (Dr.) S. K Bagga (Director), Dronacharya Group of Institution, Greater Noida started the inaugural session by welcoming the resource persons. He apprised the students regarding the advantages of Virtual Labs and encouraged them to utilize the Virtual Lab facility The session was followed by presentation by Prof (Dr) H S Dua (HOD, ECE, DGI), where he explained the various aspects of utilization of Virtual Labs by the students.
Mr. T. T Das, started with technical session, who presented the brief overview of National Impact Of Virtual Lab on Students and Teachers. He discussed the daily usage of Virtual Labs and explained the role and importance of same in bridging the gap between the typical syllabus of Technical Universities and existing Labs.
Mr. Bhairab, Mr. Guru Dutt and Mr. Nitin Agarwal other keynote speaker demonstrated the experiment of Chemical and Physical Science like Acid Base Titration and Photo Electric Effect for the first year student of CSE / IT / EEE / ECE / ME / CE and uses of Virtual lab in their courses. After the session students were given chance for hands on practice in computer labs and submitted the feedback online.
The workshop came to an end with presentation of memento to the resource persons by Prof. (Dr.) S.K. Bagga.
Overall, the workshop was fruitful for first year students as it gave them an exposure to adopt the Virtual Lab experimentation technique so as to learn the basics at the own pace by doing these experiments from anywhere and anytime.
