Session on Physical Wellness - "Kidney Health & Stones Management"

NSS unit of Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida in association with Dr Reddy’s Foundation for Health Education (DRFHE) hosted a physical wellness session on "Kidney Health and Stones Management" by "Dr. Prashant Kumar (M.B.B.S., M.S.M.Ch Urology, Fellow (GURS), Consultant in Urology, Uro-oncology and Renal Transplant") on 20th January 2023. Prof. Dr. Mamta Bharadwaj (APS Dept.) was the event coordinator.
70 students from 1st and 2nd year attended the session. 2nd year students Chhavi Chaudhary, Anshika Nautiyal, Arin Sharma , Abhiraj Kumar, Varnika Tomar, Diksha Vaid, Srishti Mittal and Apekshita Aggarwal were the student coordinator of the event.
Prof. (Dr.) S.K. Srivastava (Registrar, DGI ) welcomed Dr. Prashant Kumar and briefed students, importance of adopting healthy lifestyle. Dr. Prashant explained the organ Kidney and its functions. He said kidney plays an important role in the functioning of human body. He explained, they filter waste products and other impurities from blood. They also produce hormones that regulate blood pressure and control the production of RBCs and are also responsible for activating a form of vitamin D that helps the body to absorb calcium.
Further, he told about the ways to maintain kidney health and daily routine to be followed for proper functioning of the kidney. He told about importance of taking minerals and adequate fluids in the diet. He explained stress related activities should be minimal and advised upon quitting alcohol and smoking. He also said to limit/stop the use of taking excessive OTC (over-the-counter) pills. To have a good kidney health and its proper functioning, diabetes and high blood pressure should be properly monitored.
He then advised all the audiences to be on alert if things go wrong. He told one of the most prevailing kidney problems is Kidney Stones. He said- minerals and other substances in the blood may accumulate in the kidneys thus forming solid particles known as Stones. They usually are very painful and come out of the urine. In case, they are not coming out through urine, then he advised to visit the doctor immediately.
The session was very knowledgeable and all the students gained useful information about proper functioning and health of kidney.
