"Emerging Opportunities and Challenges in Industrial Sustainability"

IEEE Student Chapter, Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida organized a session on, “Emerging Opportunities and Challenges in Industrial Sustainability” on 25th January 2024. Students of 3rd and final year attended the session. Mr. Jitender Kumar (DGM – North and East Region – Seco Tools and India Pvt. Ltd.) was the resource person of the session. Ms. Krati Hardya and Ms. Mokshi Khatana were the faculty coordinator.
The objective of the session was to equip students with insights into the latest trends, opportunities, and challenges in integrating sustainable practices into industrial processes.
The session began with a warm welcome and introduction of resource person, followed by engaging session by Mr. Jitender Kumar. He emphasized the growing demand for sustainable practices in industries, urging students to view sustainability not just as a regulatory requirement but as a strategic opportunity. Mr. Kumar highlighted emerging trends like the integration of renewable energy, energy-efficient technologies, and the circular economy model, which aims to reduce waste through recycling and reuse. He explained how these trends are reshaping industries by creating new avenues for business growth, technological advancement, and job creation, while also addressing environmental concerns. He encouraged students to think creatively about how engineering solutions can contribute to more sustainable industrial processes, stressing the importance of interdisciplinary approaches in solving complex sustainability challenges.
Mr. Kumar also highlighted the significant challenges that industrial sectors face in achieving true sustainability. He pointed out issues like the high initial costs of green technologies, the complexity of redesigning existing supply chains to be more sustainable, and the difficulty of quantifying sustainability metrics. He stressed the importance of overcoming these obstacles through innovation, collaboration, and policy advocacy. In the end Mr. Kumar cleared the doubts of the students.
The session was highly informative, as students gained valuable insights into the importance of industrial sustainability and its growing role in shaping the future of engineering and industrial practices.
