QEEE D2S Session on Gas Power Cycle (Thermal Engineering-I)
26th, 27th and 28th March 2018
QEEE session on Gas Power Cycle was organized by IIT Madras under Direct to Student (D2S) Program at Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida through ICT on 26th, 27th and 28th March 2018.The course was conducted by Prof. S.R Kale, Faculty IIT Madras. Mr. Manik Mittal was the Local Faculty Coordinator for the Course.
Day 1: 26th March
Prof. S.R Kale started his lecture with the description of the importance of Gas power Cycle. He described Ideal Power Cycle, types of Petrol and Diesel Engines, Catalytic Convertor and particulate filter. He also explained the different type of emissions and the difference between 2-stroke, 4-stroke Petrol and Diesel Engines.
Day 2: 27th March
Prof. Kale started the session with a brief recapitulation of the previous concepts. He then discussed Diesel Cycle and its efficiency and compared the efficiencies of Otto, Diesel and Dual cycle. He gave a brief idea about Turbocharger and Supercharger. He later discussed the basic cycles such as Stirling, Brayton and Atkinson.
Day 3: 28th March
Prof. Kale resumed the session with basic concept of I.C Engine terminologies, selective Catalytic Reduction, Brayton Cycle, Ericsson Cycle and Duty Cycle. He also explained how to calculated the efficiency and discussed various applications of different cycles.
The three days session was very effective as the students learnt about the applications and use of different cycles. They also learnt about the emissions and catalytic convertor. The proctored quiz was submitted by the students through their QEEE account.
