Industrial visit to
HEXAGON GEOSPATIAL (Intergraph SG&I India Pvt. Ltd.)

Department of Civil Engineering, Dronacharya Group of institutions, Greater Noida organized an industrial visit to Hexagon Geospatial (Intergraph SG&I India Pvt. Ltd) Gurgaon under the aegis of DGI-ASCE Student Chapter on 22nd September 2017. 16 Students of 3rd year Civil engineering branch along with Mr. Suhash Ranjan Bannerjee, Assistant Professor, Civil Engineering Department DGI Greater Noida visited the company.
Students were welcomed by Mr. Ashish (Junior Manager, Ground Survey). The sessions were divided into two segments. First session was on Ground Distance Measurement Using Total Station and second session was on Geographic Information System and Remote Sensing.
Session 1:
Mr. Ashish briefed the students about different types of Surveying and the Evolution of Measurement System. He discussed about new technologies being adopted in today's surveying practices. He explained operation of total station and also briefed the students about application of coordinates in surveying. He described Locating Points, Horizontal Distance, vertical distance and Angle of Elevation using Total Station.
Session 2:
Mr. Basudev (Senior Head) explained the application of Global Positioning System (GPS) and Geographical Information System (GIS). He demonstrated how to predict the maximum storage of a reservoir/dam by using software. He later described different kind of simulation software and explained Calculations of Entropy Index and Dissimilarity Index for Urban Planning.
The visit was very informative and students acquired valuable information in surveying and application of GIS.
