Pedagogy for Online and Blended Teaching-Learning Process (FDP201X) Face to Face Interaction
16 & 17 September 2017
The Face to Face interaction of AICTE approved FDP – “Pedagogy for Online and Blended Teaching-Learning Process (FDP201X)” organized under Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya National Mission for Teachers and Teaching (PMMMNMTT), MHRD was held at Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida (RC 1316) on 16 & 17 September, 2017. 16 participants from DGI who successfully completed FDP101x were eligible for FDP201x. The FDP was conducted by IIT Bombay through ICT.
Day-1-16 September, 2017:
The Face to Face interaction started at 9:30 AM with an introduction to FDP201x by Prof. Sridhar Iyer, of Department of CSE, IIT Bombay. Prof. Iyer congratulated the participants at all the remote centres for successfully completing FDP101x and joining FDP201x. He discussed various aspects of FDP201x in the field of online teaching methodology and blended learning process. He encouraged the faculty community to initiate blended teaching-learning culture in their organization.
Mr. Jayakrishnan M, IDP in ET, IIT Bombay, highlighted the important aspect of the second FDP in which around 4900 participants joined with more than 50% marks in FDP101x. He informed that in FDP201x, participants will learn how to create effective teaching-learning lessons by using MOODLE, Flipped Class Rooms, Screeno Cast etc. which they learned in FDP101x.
Prof. Deepak B Phatak , of Department of CSE at IITB, encouraged the participants for effectively involving themselves in the FDP.
Dr. Sameer Sahasrabudhe, Senior Project, Research Scientist, IIT Bombay, conducted a session on Pedagogy of Peer review in which he first explained different navigations of IITBx website which was necessary for the participants who faced many challenges during FDP101x. He then discussed the effectiveness of peer review in class room teaching with some tools like Moodle, Google form etc.
In post lunch session a discussion on Moving from the 20th to 21st Century Teaching-Learning- were discussed by Prof. Sahana Murthy. Prof. Murthy said that in the 21st century teachers have to build a teaching-learning environment both inside the class rooms and online.
Day 2-17 September, 2017
The second day started with a discussion on Integrating videos and simulations in Teaching-Learning. The session was conducted by Prof. Sridhar Iyer in which he discussed about the ways of delivering lectures in classes. He demonstrated Think-Pair-Share activities, and then explained how to carefully design activity so that majority of the students get involved. He concluded the session with two very important takeaway messages:
- Make Students Grapple With Content During Class,
- Provide active learning and ensure immediate and appropriate feedback.
The second session on Visual Presentation Skills was conducted by Prof. Sameer Sahasrabudhe. He discussed how to effectively use different tools for presentation in classes. He explained how to innovate effective technique in teaching so that peers can remember well. He also mentioned important features to be taken care of during presentation, like color schemes, color guidelines, typography, common observations, visual effect, impress guidelines, take away message etc.
Mr Jayakrishnan conducted a session on Utilising Moodle for Higher Order Learning Outcome. He highlighted the advanced features of MOODLE. Mr. Jayakrishnan concluded his lectures by specifying the learning purposes inside and outside classrooms such as Information Transfer, Assess Learning, Communication and Interaction and Co-Create content.
The two-day Face to Face interaction on FDP201x was very effective and useful for the participants.
