National Kart Racing Championship, Bhopal
29th September - 3rd October 2017
National Kart Racing Championship was organized from 29th September to 3rd October 2017 at RITS and RPM International Kart Racing Circuit, Bhopal with an aim to bring out the innovative and creative potential of young automobile enthusiasts. Team GARUD from Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida comprising of 14 students from Third and Final year participated in the event with team mentor Mr. Harshit Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering.
NKRC 2017 comprised of following 3 levels:
1. Regional level Workshop
2. Virtual Round
3. Final Round
Regional level Workshop
Team GARUD participated in NKRC workshop held at MIET, Meerut from 24th to 26th June 2017. The team won the First Prize as Best Attentive Team (Best Learners) during the workshop. The objective of the workshop was to acquaint participants about rules and regulations for designing and developing a Go-Kart.
Virtual round
Virtual round for the competition was held at VGI, Indore on 8th and 9th July 2017. In the Virtual Round, all the teams were required to showcase their research and development in a power point presentation to the jury online. The teams were evaluated based on their knowledge of the basic automotive design technology and the Go-Kart design and manufacturing requirements. Team GARUD ranked 68 (All India rank) out of 220 teams out of which 120 teams qualified for the Next and Final round.
Final round
The final round was conducted during 5 days and comprised of the following rounds:
- Static Tests
- Dynamic Tests
- Endurance Test
Day 1: Sep 29, 2017
The first day of the event was for pit allocation and vehicle registration. Team GARUD was allocated a pit for safe custody of the kart and registration formalities were completed on the day.
Day 2: Sep 30, 2017
The second day of the event was for the Static Round in which the following documents were validated by the juries:
- Design Report
- Innovation Report
- Cost Report
- Design Validation Plan
- Gantt Chart
Day 3: Oct 1, 2017
Before the dynamic event there was a TI (Technical Inspection). TI was based on rulebook parameter and safety checks of the vehicle. During Technical Inspection judges checked the kart according to the Technical Inspection (TI) sheet as specified in the Rule Book and cleared the kart for the final dynamic round.
Day 4: Oct 2, 2017
The Fourth day of the event was for Dynamic Round in which following tests were conducted:
- Brake Test
- Skid Pad Test
- Auto Cross
- Endurance Test
Day 5: Oct 3, 2017
All teams that cleared the Dynamic Test were given go ahead for the final endurance test of the event in which 13 teams participated. Team GARUD was appreciated for the design of their vehicle. They had a great learning experience during the event.
